Independent project 2022
Synth's Oddities (& Archnemes!)
Acrylic on canvas, 16x20 inches
In VAM, for the past few months we have been working on our independent projects. I painted four acrylic portraits of characters of mine. I chose to work with acrylics because I want to improve my painting skills, and because I love the bright colours that acrylics can produce. I had so much fun working on this project! I’m so glad to be able to work with and around like-minded peers. I doubt my pieces would have come out as well as they did if not for the advice of my peers.
I used the design principles of asymmetry, as I wanted each to have a unique silhouette! I really wanted to capture a lot of character in each portrait. Each canvas is 16x20 inches, and I wanted to take full advantage of that! I incorporated both geometric and organic shapes into each portrait in order to create some good contrast between objects.
I had some challenges with time with these pieces. But it was a good experience for meeting deadlines! I love how they turned out, and I really feel that this project helped me grow as an artist. I would definitely want to do something like this again in the future.
